When Bernard fell and broke his hip, everything changed so fast. He ended up in intensive care for a week, and at the time, we weren’t even sure he’d pull through. But when the time came for rehab, we were sent to Oelwein—specifically because of the excellent therapy program—and I’m so glad we were.

At first, the prognosis wasn’t good. But thanks to the incredible therapists who worked with him every day, Bernard started making real progress. Within four or five weeks, we were able to bring him home—and today, he’s nearly back to how he was before the fall. It honestly felt like his time at Oelwein helped save his life.

The therapy team was outstanding, and while I don’t remember their names, I’ll never forget their dedication and kindness. Bernard also enjoyed having a roommate and sharing meals with other residents—it reminded him that he wasn’t alone in his journey. I visited every day, and being able to sit and spend that time with him truly helped lift his spirits.

Oelwein was a warm, comfortable place filled with compassionate people who worked hard to help Bernard heal. I’d absolutely recommend them to any family going through a similar situation. They didn’t just help him recover—they helped us both feel supported every step of the way.
